| While
the Museo del Prado alone might justify a visit to Madrid, the city has
other excellent collections which reinforces its reputation as one of
the great art centres of Europe. Our visit will start with a brief
orientation tour of this elegant baroque city, with a guided visit of
the Prado which houses some of the world’s famous works by Goya,
Velázquez, Hieronymus Bosch and many other famous artists. Other
tours in Madrid will include the Thyssen-Bornemisza gallery and the
Reina Sofía. On another day we plan to visit Toledo, home of El Greco. Here in the past centuries, Christians, Arabs and Jews lived side by side in harmony. With its churches, palaces and Charles V’s Alcázar de Toledo, this will prove to be an interesting day. We have another two places, which whilst different, are quite close in distance to each other. Segovia, with its beautiful mansions, Roman churches and aqueduct has an imposing castle almost out of Walt Disney. Then on to Avila, a city surrounded by ramparts and bastions which are all still intact. To be able to see both of these places, they will be visited on the same day. |
