Picturesque
Broadway is notable for its varied shops, restaurants, and its two
contrasting museums, both of which are likely to appeal to
Friends.
Based in a seventeenth century building on the High Street, the
Ashmolean Broadway features exhibits from the Ashmolean in Oxford. The
displays of fine and decorative art from the 17th to 21st centuries
include paintings by Gainsborough, Reynolds, Millais, and Landseer. A
modest entrance fee of £6 (concessions £4.50) is payable.
Quite different in conception is the Gordon Russell Design Museum,
which celebrates the work of Sir Gordon Russell, the renowned twentieth
century furniture designer. Conveniently located, the extremely
well-presented museum is of interest not only to a specialist audience.
The admission fee is £4 (concessions £ 3.50).
