Visit: Hidcote Manor Garden
and Chipping Campden

In 1907 the wealthy American Mrs Gertrude Winthrop bought Hidcote (287 acres) between Chipping Campden and Stratford upon Avon and in doing so provided her son Lawrence Johnstone with the opportunity to create one of the most beautiful gardens in England.

On arrival you have the opportunity to have coffee in the Barn or Winthrop cafés.
After coffee we are lucky to have a talk from not only from one of the garden’s volunteers but also the Head Gardener Glyn Jones who has also been working at Dyffryn gardens and you can find out about the link between the latter and Hidcote.

You can then explore the garden in your own time. As in Dyffryn there are ‘garden rooms’ which peak at different times of the year. July will be a good time to see the herbaceous borders – the famous red borders, lilies and lacecap hydrangeas as well as the rare shrubs and trees and unusual plants from around the World.
Lunch can be taken in the Winthrop or Barn Cafés between 12noon and 2pm.

We will then take a short journey to Chipping Campden – the jewel of the Cotswolds where there are plenty of cafés to take tea and one or two galleries you may have time to visit.
NB You are advised to wear sensible footwear as some paths and steps are narrow and uneven and can be slippery and wet. Don’t forget your National Trust card if you have one.
