| Adelina
Patti is regarded as one of the greatest sopranos of all time. In her
day, this fascinatingDiva was feted by kings and emperors, princes and
czars, tycoons and millionaires. She was treated like a glamorous
film-star and occasionally behaved like one! At the height of her
powers she decided to settle in Wales, in the Swansea Valley, where she
set about rebuilding a mansion house, Craig y Nos, transforming it into
a castle, with its own theatre modelled on Bayreuth. John Huw Thomas is one of Britain's most highly regarded musicians. having been awarded the OBE for services to music in Wa;es om 1996. He has developed an interest in Madame Patti and will share with us some of her intriguing history in this talk. The admission charge, to include post-lecture coffee and biscuits in the Oriel Suite, is £8 for tickets ordered by Friends in advance, and £10 at the door.
