Oxford - city of spires

For our annual sightseeing visit to Oxford this year your visit will again be unaccompanied, giving you another chance to visit the various museums and exhibitions on display as well as a good assortment of hostelries. There will be a coffee and biscuits stop en route at the Compass Inn in Tormarton.

The drop-off at the Ashmolean Museum offers the possibility to attend an exhibition entitled "Degas to Picasso" which details the rise of Modernism in France. The story will plot a course from the Romantic artists – David, Gericault and Delacroix – to the ground-breaking experiments of Picasso, Braque and the Duchamp brothers. Entry to this exhibition is £10.00. This is a timed entry exhibition. We suggest you pre-book for the 12.30pm tour. Other exhibitions at this time include 'The Legacy of Alexander the Great' on the creation of one of the first truly international currencies, and Hiroshige's Mount Fuji - Both free admission. There is a rooftop restaurant at the museum.

Pitt Rivers Museum -Volunteer led tours take place in the Museum on Wednesdays at 14.30 and 15.15. They are free and there is no need to book. - Entrance to the Pit Rivers Museum is through the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, which houses the University's scientific collections of zoological, entomological, paleontological and mineralogical specimens accumulated in the course of the last three centuries.

Bodleian Library - there are a variety of events including Volcanoes - In this exhibition discover
a spectacular selection of eye witness accounts, scientific observations and artwork charting how our
understanding of volcanoes has evolved over the past two millennia.
Slavonic treasures from the Bodleian Libraries - With a focus on alphabets, writing, and the interplay
