‘Frank Lloyd Wright’

A talk by Jonathan Adams BSc (Hons) AADip RIBA

Frank Lloyd Wright was born in 1867 in America of Welsh parentage. His family were among the first wave of emigres to leave West Wales in the late 1800’s to start a new life in America. Lloyd Wright’s architectural career spanned seven decades before his death in 1959. Wright’s visionary work cemented his place as the American Institute of Architects’ “greatest American architect of all time”.

Jonathan Adams was born in Caerleon, South Wales and was educated at the Welsh School of Architecture in Cardiff and the Architectural Association, School of Architecture in London. Jonathan Adams joined Percy Thomas Partnership and began work on the 106 million Wales Millennium Centre project in Cardiff Bay which opened in November 2004. He was President of the Royal Society of Architects in Wales (RSAW) from 2005 to 2007. In 2005 he began work on a major refurbishment and re-organisation of Cardiff's Sherman Theatre. The building re-opened in February 2012. In February 2010 his new headquarters building for the Welsh Joint Education Committee (WJEC) was opened. Jonathan Adams presented a BBC television documentary about Frank Lloyd Wright, which was broadcast at the end of August 2017 on BBC4 and BBC2 Wales.
