Members of Friends of National Museum Wales, founded in 1955, support and promote National Museum Wales, raising substantial funds to finance projects across its seven sites.

Friends' events bring members together to share their enthusiasm for the Museum and generate income.

Friends at Big Pit

We raise the funds which we give to National Museum Wales through:
  • members' annual subscriptions
  • excursions of varying duration to places of interest in the UK and abroad
  • monthly public lectures on topics of artistic, historical and scientific interest,
  • and other activities such as concerts and 'behind the scenes’ Museum visits
  • a biennial celebrity dinner
  • a Christmas lunch
  • gifts and legacies.
