The
National Library of Wales had a long and fruitful relationship with the
late Sir Kyffin Williams KBE, RA, RCA who is widely
regarded as one of the defining artists of the 20th century, especially
in his native Wales. To mark the 100th anniversary of his birth, the
National Library has brought together a comprehensive collection of
Kyffin’s works including iconic impasto landscapes, dynamic portraiture
and his preparatory drawings and sketchbooks.
This important exhibition is to date the largest and most comprehensive
collection of Kyffin’s compositions. The exhibition takes place in the
prestigious Gregynog Gallery and contains paintings, previously unseen,
from private collections. The visit will include a presentation in the
DRWM multi-media auditorium and a guided tour of the exhibition.
The National Library of Wales is the national legal depository with
stores of literary treasures from Britain and Ireland and this visit
will also provide an opportunity to explore some of these.
