You
are invited to accompany us to Oxford once again this year. On arrival
at the Ashmolean Museum you will be free to visit some of the many
institutions that make this city famous.
Perhaps one of the best kept secrets is Christ Church Picture Gallery
(Concession Price £2.00). Located within the walls of Christ Church
enter through Canterbury Gate off Oriel Square (from King Edward
Street). The custodian at the gate will direct you to the gallery.
Should you wish to see the whole college the entrance is at Meadow Gate
(Concession £7.00). This includes access to the Quads, Cloister, Hall
Staircase, Hall and Cathedral.
If we are lucky with the weather then the Oxford Botanic Garden
(founded as a physic garden in 1621) is located 20 minutes walk along
High Street towards Magdalen College makes a very interesting walk. The
garden comprises a diversity of glasshouse specimens, walled gardens,
rock gardens etc., and is one of the oldest scientific gardens in the
world.
Pitt Rivers Museum - Volunteer led tours take place in the Museum on
Wednesdays at 14.30 and 15.15. They are free and there is no need to
book. Entrance to the Pitt Rivers Museum is through the Oxford
University Museum of Natural History, which houses the University's
scientific collections of zoological, entomological, paleontological
and mineralogical specimens accumulated in the course of the last three
centuries.
