| Dr
Guttmann-Bond is a semi-retired lecturer in Archaeology. She formerly
taught at the Universities of Reading and Cardiff and the University of
Wales,Trinity St Davids, and held a Chair in Landscape Archaeology at
the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam. Following the floods, tsunamis and other natural disasters and hazards of recent years, there has been considerable interest in the failure of past land management practice, and the consequent effect on the environment. But the successes of the past are of equal importance, and ancient systems can be more resilient and also more sustainable in the face of environmental extremes. Increasingly, early agricultural techniques are being re-discovered and put to work. In her talk, Dr Guttmann-Bond will argue that the best land management systems are often a mix of ancient and modern techniques. |
