| In the year that Wales celebrates the Centenary of its most successful and productive artist Sir Kyffin Williams RA, David Meredith, Chairman of The Sir Kyffin Williams Trust, pays tribute to his hero, Sir Kyffin, John Kyffin Williams, or as he preferred to be called just ‘Kyffin’. Born in Llangefni, Anglesey, in 1918, during his long life, Sir Kyffin painted thousands of paintings in a period of over 60 years. Kyffin painted extensively in Wales and in Scotland, Ireland and England, as well as Italy, France, Greece and Austria, with a spectacular visit in 1968/69 to record the people, the land, the animals and the fauna of Patagonia in South America - Y Wladfa. In his talk to The Friends of the National Museum, David Meredith will spotlight particularly one of Kyffin’s favourite overseas painting locations - Venice, the magical city that Kyffin visited for the first time in 1950 and for the last time in 2004, two years before his death in 2006.David Meredith had the privilege of accompanying Kyffin on this last visit, a visit which he regards as a great event in his life. With two vast collections of his paintings donated by Kyffin to Oriel Môn in Llangefni and to the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth, Sir John Kyffin Williams RA is rightly regarded as one of Wales’ greatest benefactors. The admission charge for this event, to include a post-lecture coffee and biscuit is £8 in advance for Friends or £10 at the door.
